Dont be afraid to set everything back to default, or turning down the settings while your trying to find the problem.

This can often point you in the right direction regarding where the problem is coming from. You can try to check event viewer for more info on the crash, it doesnt always show up, but if it does you can get info like the exception code or faulting module info and google it. See what background programs are running and try turning off you antivirus and firewalls and resident spy stuff, whatever you have running - you wont be vunerable for the time it takes to test.
